Key Components to this Training

This Hatha Yoga 200 HR Teacher Training and Deeper Studies Program is designed for experienced students who would like to achieve a 200 HR Yoga Alliance Certification for the purpose of teaching yoga classes and also for the serious yoga practitioner desiring to deepen his/her understanding of the science of yoga. 

The 200 HR training is a comprehensive curriculum that fully covers the fundamentals of yoga philosophy, teaching methods, and specific techniques for working with a diverse array of students in all aspects of postural, breathing, mantra, and meditation practices.

 

Asana Technique, Teaching Methods, Practical Yoga Anatomy: This part of the course you will learn to teach the major families of asanas: Sun Salutations, Standing Poses, Backbends, Forward Bends, Twist, Core Refinement, and Hip Openers. You will learn functional anatomy, bio-mechanics, and the kinesiology of movement. How to see the student and guide them in a meaningful safe way using alignment principles, modifications, and hands–on adjustments, assisting, and use of props.

 

Practical Yoga History and Philosophy: This section includes the study of certain yoga philosophies and traditional texts. Studies include; Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of  Yoga, Yoga Sutras, an overview of the Bhagavad Gita, history of yoga, and an introduction to the use of Sanskrit. 

 

Planning and Sequencing: The art and science of sequencing entire classes, including different levels of students, intentions, setting themes, and styles.

 

Seeing, Relating, Demonstrating, Cuing: We learn to observe, appreciate, and understand what is happening with different students to develop the skills to work with all bodies and abilities. How to effectively demonstrate yoga poses while giving clear concise instructions using the qualities of voice, tone and audibility.

 

Practice Teaching: You will work with other participates to teach classes to develop the confidence and skill to lead larger classes. Each practice teaching session includes feedback and discussion of teaching techniques and methods.

 

Hands-On Assisting: One on one assisting to learn, practice and refine your techniques for guiding students in and out of poses.

 

Pranayama: Basic breathing techniques include 3-part breathing, breath retention and Ujayi, and more intermediate including alternate nostril, Sitali, Kapalabhati, and Bhramari.

 

Meditation Practice: We will explore several meditation techniques:  Breath meditation, Japa meditation, Mantra, Kirtan, etc.

 

Subtle Energetic Body and Ayurveda: Understanding that the subtle energetic body is the template to the physical body we will cover Nadis, Koshas, Bandhas, Chakras, and the Vayus. Introduction to Ayurveda and the five elements, Doshas, Gunas, and the Dinacharaya.

Pre-Natal Yoga: Here you will learn how to adapt the practice for each trimester of pregnancy, indications and contraindications for various conditions, effective use of props, emotional and psychological aspects of pre-natal, preparation, delivery and post-partum reintegration through yoga. 

 

Lifestyle & Ethics, Selfless Service: Exploring the bigger picture of how we live our lives off the mat. Nutrition, personal yoga and meditation practice, relations with family, friends, co-workers and community. Living our lives with dignity, integrity, and respect for all beings.

*Home study and assignments begin 2 weeks before training starts. Assignments will be sent via email with instructions for completion prior to the start of the yoga teacher training program only to registered applicants.
